Tubal Ligation

Permanent female sterilization through laparoscopy.

1 What is Tubal Ligation?

It is a permanent female sterilization method to prevent unwanted pregnancies, as the fallopian tubes are cauterized and cut.

2 How is it performed?

Laparoscopic tubal ligation is performed with local anesthesia at the navel plus a sedative administered intravenously. It is a minimally invasive technique that allows for quick recovery.

3 Possible Discomfort

Abdominal pain, dizziness, shoulder pain, feeling of heaviness, navel pain, nausea, and chest tightness may occur. To reduce these discomforts, it is recommended to take soda with alka seltzer during the first 24 hours and take diclofenac as medically indicated.

4 Recovery

During the first day, do not eat fatty foods, dairy, seasonings, or alcoholic beverages. Resume your normal diet on the fourth day. Do not perform physical exertion during the first week. By the fifth day you can resume your normal life and by day 8 your sexual life.

5 Post-operative Care

Normal personal hygiene, taking care not to remove the micropore from the wounds. If it gets wet, dry it thoroughly. Remove the micropore on the fifth day. If the wound has not yet closed, apply a micropore pulling the wound together to help it close. If breastfeeding, you can resume nursing one hour after the procedure.
