Mirena

Intrauterine endoceptive that releases levonorgestrel with a duration of 5 years.

1 What is Mirena?

It is an intrauterine endoceptive that synchronously releases a substance called levonorgestrel and acts as a therapeutic element for bleeding alterations. Its duration is 5 years with high effectiveness in preventing pregnancies.

2 Side Effects

It may alter your bleeding, causing brown spotting in the first 3 to 6 months. The most notable change is the significant decrease in menstrual bleeding volume; 20% of women will have no menstrual bleeding of any kind (amenorrhea) after one year of use. Headache, abdominal pain, and breast tenderness may also occur.

3 What should I keep in mind?

Mirena can be expelled from the body, so you should follow these indications: do not have sexual intercourse for 8 days after insertion, do not perform physical exertion for 3 days after insertion. For pain, you can take ibuprofen or diclofenac.

4 Recovery

You can resume your normal life immediately after insertion. It is important to attend scheduled check-ups and contact us if you have any questions or unusual symptoms.
